Five Bai Five
As a pre-dinner cocktail that’s a little outside of the norm, the Five Bai Five will definitely satisfy. Strong aroma baijiu is a bit pungent, and I wanted to highlight that. The name is based on a few factors. It has five ingredients: strong aroma baijiu, Islay Scotch, a citrusy and floral amaro, red Italian bitters, and orange liqueur. “Five by five” is an old military term meaning someone on the radio was coming in loud and clear. Strong aroma baijiu comes in loud and clear in this cocktail but with a great deal more nuance. Have one, or two, possibly a third. Just play it bai ear.
